I like to come here right before close, around 5:30pm on Sundays after the monthly free organ concerts at Grace Cathedral (would highly recommend checking those out). The line is usually short, sub five minutes, and they are usually sold out of most of the hot food items. I usually get frozen or refrigerated versions, which they are never sold out of, which I then take hom and steam or fry myself. The people who work here always seem tired and annoyed, probably because I come at the end of their day. Don't expect to have a long, friendly conversation with them about what they recommend. They expect you to know what you want when you get to the front. 1. Refrigerated Turnip Cake. They sell 3.5 lb slabs of steamed turnip cake for $11, which fills up an entire large box. I estimate it makes about 16 slices of turnip cake. You take it home and fry it up on your own, which honestly tastes better anyway, because it's nice, hot, fresh and crispy when you put it in your mouth. 2. Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf. They were sold out of the ready to eat hot version but I bought two frozen ones, $4.50 each (same as regular price). 3. Steam BBQ Pork Bun. They were sold out of the ready to eat hot version, but I bought two frozen ones, $2 each (same as regular price). They puffed up when I steamed them at home and were absolutely enormous. Very saucy and tasty BBQ Pork filling, and plenty of it. Would definitely get these again. 4. Vegetable & Pork Bun. These remind me of the pork buns I used to get out of big steamers off the street in Shanghai as a kid. There is something that just really hits the spot about these mantou. Would order again. $3.80 for 3 pieces. 5. Crispy Skin Stuffed Tofu. Deep fried soft tofu stuffed (really topped) with shrimp paste. It doesn't show up anywhere on the menu, and I haven't seen it before, so I think it was a special that day. Would order again. $3.80 for 3 pieces. 6. Frozen Shrimp Wonton. Haven't tried these yet, but they look pretty promising. They take credit card, but charge an extra 3% fee for any non-cash payment method. There are lots of other things on the menu that are super popular and that I think are good, and are worth trying once, but were just never really my favorite dim sum: shrimp dumpling, shui mai, shrimp crepe roll, egg yolk bun, malaysian sponge cake, Baked BBQ Pork Bun, Egg Custard Tart, Sesame Ball, Deep Fried Meat Dumpling, Rice Cake, Mochi, Sweet Melon Cake. There are a few items that I occasionally crave that I might get here next time: 15. Preserved Egg & Pork Porridge, 18. Sticky Rice w/ Pork in Bamboo Leaf, 22. Mushroom Chicken Bun, 26. Sticky Rice Roll

Finally made it out to this place. Came on a Thursday at 11am and there was a line already forming. Parking is a challenge so be prepared to walk and don't leave anything in the car. They have the menu with pictures and discription with number, however they don't go by the number on their menu (lady said just tell her which one not the number‍) With that said its best to have your order written down and ready to go. They move fast no register to calculate order just old school calculator. If you have any seafood allergies. I suggest order SEPARATELY otherwise everything gets thrown into one container and its hard to tell what is what. Food: was CHEAP and GOOD. We ordered and tried the usual shrimp, pork, chicken dumpling/shumai. They were sadly out lf the baked pork buns so we got the steamed one and also their soysauce noodles. We'll def come back next time earlier to try baked pork buns and other stuff.

This place is nice, but it's somewhat over hyped. The good: the prices and the food. The bad: lines every time and the location can be tough to get to. It was convenient because I happened to be in the area, but don't even try to drive to the neighborhood. Bike or take shared transport! The shop itself is small, so be ready to pick something up and get out of the way of the other customers in line! I got the classics to set a baseline: har gow, beef shui mai, shrimp and chive dumplings, and an egg tart. Everything was tasty, light dumpling wrappers, and good textures. It was under $20 out the door for a good portion. BUT on the other hand, you can get very similar dim sum at similar prices in a LOT of other places throughout Chinatown and elsewhere. I don't want to knock it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get my dim sum here. If you're nearby and the line isn't too long, stop in!

This is one of those traditional take out dim sum places. You will expect subpar service (and the disdained 'aunties' do indeed complain about everything in canto right in front of you) with no attention paid to the decor. I also witness them telling the guy in front of me that a couple of item he ordered was out with a tone and expression like he (the customer) should have known that already. But I digress...anyhow, this review is solely for the food. They steam their dim sum in huge round metal racks and it does seem like their dim sums are homemade. Most of them are jumbo sized. They are also very affordable. A lady cut in front of me and ordered a million things for like $50. After I fought for attention of the clerk, which you have to do if you want to actually order and not be ignored, I was able to get the shrimp dumpling and pork shumai. I think taste-wise it's pretty on par for the price. This is something that I would get if I happened to be in the area and just want a quick cheap bite...so in that sense, this store serves that purpose well.

I came in not expecting the best service in the world, so when the lady getting my food looked pissed while talking to her co-worker in mandarin, I wasn't taken aback or surprised. Just pure dissatisfaction with life in that room. But, I was here for the food, so...Might you say that I have developed an immune system for not taking things personally from someone who isn't close to me. Putting that aside, I got the top two things on the menu because my turn came quicker than expected, and I assumed that the first items on their menu are what they are probably popular for. I got the shrimp dumpling and the pork shu mai (both around $4 for three of each). That's a steal. I particularly liked the shrimp dumpling because of how chewy and medium-thick the skin was and how juicy and perfectly seasoned the whole shrimp was on the inside. I should've gotten like 15 of these lol. Otherwise, the pork shu mai was okay. They were pretty generous with the amount of tender pork in each shu mai, and the seasoning was fine (just right), but I didn't find it all too special. I think it's the shrimp dumplings that make me like this place a lot! Oh and they do accept card/Apple Pay!

I've been coming here for 10 years and it has always been a popular tourist destination. Over the years the food has stayed reliable and cheap so I've never found a reason to go elsewhere for grab-and-go dim sum. The staff are very efficient here so don't expect them to ask you how your day is going. They know the menu well so I've observed people ordering in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, either with the item number on the menu or with the name of the item. While they do take credit card, there is a 3% surcharge so you should bring cash for the best deal. My go-to order is the baked char siu bun ($2). The char siu filling is sweet and savory with good chunks of BBQ pork. I like how the bread dough is not too sweet but is pillowy and chewy to hold all the pork filling together. Sometimes they sell out of it (especially on weekends), but when I came by recently on a Wednesday early afternoon they pulled a fresh batch out of the oven. When they don't have the baked char siu bun, I go for the steamed char siu bun because the filling is just that good!
